The Greatest Among You
In this powerful session, we dive deep into what it truly means to be a servant of Christ. While we are sons and daughters by position, our function and heart posture must always be that of a servant.
🔥 In this class, we break down three key Greek words for servant found in Scripture:
✅ Diakonos (διάκονος)
Bible Verse: Acts 6 (where it is translated as deacon)
Meaning: This word describes a high-level servant, someone who serves in an official or professional capacity. It denotes one who serves diligently and faithfully, often in ministry-related roles.
✅ Huperetes (ὑπηρέτης)
Bible Verse: 1 Corinthians 4:1 ("This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.")
Meaning: This word originally referred to under-rowers—criminals who were condemned to row ships for the rest of their lives. Paul uses it to describe ministers of the gospel, emphasizing that their role is to keep moving the church forward through their service and dedication, even when unseen or unrecognized.
✅ Doulos (δοῦλος)
Bible Verse: Jude 1:1 ("Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother of James...")
Meaning: The most abject term for a slave in Greek. It describes someone completely sold into slavery, whose entire existence is to fulfill the will of their master. Jude identifies himself as a doulos of Christ, meaning he is fully surrendered to Jesus, living only to execute His will.
📖 We’ll uncover how servanthood is not just an action but an identity—one that leads to Kingdom greatness.
